I didn’t want to intern at a retail store, because I work part time at a retail store. I wanted to do something fun, something that I know would benefit me in future, and something that was different. I spoke to my instructors about it and realized that I wanted to get more experience with blogging. My instructor gave me a list of names, and I researched all of them. Kierra stuck out to me the most, so, I messaged her and ever since then it’s been great.
Why did you want to be an intern for Kierra from Naturally Far Out?
I wanted to intern for Kierra, because I love her style. I wanted to get more experience in blogging and the behind the scenes of it. I wanted to learn how to use a professional camera and work my way around photoshop as well. From what I saw on her Instagram, she seemed like someone I wanted to intern for. I’m glad I reached out to her!
We do a lot of fun projects. I take photos of her. She’s been showing me the way about using photoshop. Driving around to find locations to take photos and taking photos for her collaborations. There are a lot more fun projects still to come that I am excited for too. I’m even able to make my own blog post (like this post here).
What has been the best part of the internship?
The best part, I would say, is becoming the photographer, making her look good and being the director behind the lens. I’ve learned that taking photos for the blog is different from everyday kind of photos, there’s a certain aesthetic to keep up. I’ve become so fascinated with photography now that I want to start doing it as a hobby. Also, just getting to know Kierra has been so fun. It doesn’t feel like a job but more of a fun day of doing little projects.
Yes, I do want to start my own fashion blog. It’s something that I’ve wanted to start for a while now, fashion has always been my passion, so writing about and sharing my love for it is what I’ve always wanted to do. Kierra has been showing me the do’s and the don’t ,which I find very helpful, and it’s what I needed. Being a college student is already a handful, but I do want to start a platform for myself, so it’s in working progress right now. When it’s up and running I will probably have to schedule things around differently, but I look forward to it.
What has been the most important things you’ve learned when it comes to starting your own fashion blog?
I’ve learned that as a blogger you have to always stay true to yourself. When getting sponsored, a lot of bloggers get carried away by all the material goods they get. Kierra is one few bloggers that I follow that has stayed true to herself and how she goes about things. To her, it’s not about how many followers she has, it’s about the content she puts out. It’s about her passion. That’s what I want for myself as well.
