As in Basecamp Hotel located in Boulder, Colorado! Hands down best hotel I’ve ever been to. It wasn’t luxurious by any means, but that’s why I loved it. The staff are wonderful, the complimentary cookies at the front desk were amazing, and the atmosphere was so lovely. But really I’ve got to tell you all how this trip even happen. It is quite a story.
So as you all remember my friend Kayla was going to be coming up for the weekend. I had it all planned out. A great mix of activities and times to relax. As soon as she got to town, we decided to get some grocery and then went out on the town for the night.
With not many drinks in us at all, we got this crazy idea to travel. We started looking up plane tickets right away. Needless to say these plane tickets were outrageously expensive. They were $900 plus and that just seemed to be too much for a trip in the US. I guess last-minute flights probably aren’t the cheapest. So then we started thinking of places closer, places we could drive. My first thought was Nashville. I was also thinking we could hit up Waffle House for ever meal. It’s been to long, and I’m so obsessed with their amazing breakfast food.
Anyways we went to bed thinking we were going to make our way to Nashville the next day. In the morning, I had an even better idea to go to Colorado. I have friends out there and we could possible meet up. Where shall we go? Boulder, Denver, Steamboat Springs? Either way it would be a surprise. We had all been to Colorado before, but never to these locations. I had even texted my boyfriend the night before, and told him that we were going to be taking a road trip and that he should come. He didn’t believe me at the time. The next day I told him I wasn’t joking. So he actually came al long too. We left town at 6p.m. on that Friday. The road trip started off wonderfully. We had snacks and Pandora going through the speakers. The spontaneous road trip started off just like it needed to. We were debating on the way there how the hotel situation would work. We were going to get there at around 3:30a.m. and was it really worth getting a hotel room? I didn’t think so. So we get into town at around 3:30 like I thought. We had no clue where to go. My boyfriend thought up an idea to go to a camp ground and we could camp for the night.
So I googled places in the area and we went to Flagstaff Mountain. Ok guys we are from the Midwest and literally had no clue where to go. We thought there would be a camping area, but there wasn’t. So we headed up to the mountain. As we get closer my friend screams out “OH MY GOSH THEY ARE HUGE” …something like that. I’m pretty sure she swore a lot, but it was all out of amazement. It was pitch black so seeing something so big just made us feel so small.
I drove up the mountain literally shaking in my seat. I was terrified and so was Kayla and Michael. It’s dark, the roads were narrow, and one side is the mountain, and the other was a drop. It was so scary, but I think it was the best part of the trip. You could see all the lights from down below, and it made me feel on top of the world. By time we got up the mountain and came back down we were more exhausted than ever. We parked ourselves in the local Wal-Mart parking lot and took a light nap around 4:30a.m.. I seriously couldn’t sleep, but it was fun at the same time. I had never done that before, and I’m always the mama of the group making sure everyone is safe including myself. So 6 a.m. came around, and I woke my friend up to tell her we should get a hotel room.
We looked up a few and she found the best one ever, Basecamp Hotel. We roll in and go chat with the front desk guy. So friendly and whiling to help. He gets us a room right away. We parked the car and took our bags out, changed into our pajamas, and went right to bed.
Basecamp was seriously the best, because usually we would have to wait till 3 p.m. check in. We woke up around 11:30a.m. and got started on our day then. It really felt like we spend two nights in that hotel room, because that sleep was the deepest and fastest sleep in 5 hours that I think we had ever gotten. We woke up ready to go and explore.
Since we had such a short stay and we really were at the hotel to shower, change, and sleep. I also want to share the other amenities that come with a stay at Basecamp Boulder. They have a gym, large hot tube, sauna, ping-pong table, rock climbing wall, rec room, and a bar that serves food and drinks.
P.S. Overall I rate this stay a 10/10!!!! This is post #1 from my Boulder, Colorado trip. I have two more coming your way. I can’t wait to share more about my trip with all of you. The photos are stunning.
As always, thank you for reading.
